Forgive, sounds good
Forget, I'm not sure I could
They say: time heals everything
But I'm still waiting
I'm through with doubt
There's nothing left for me to figure out
I've paid a price and I'll keep paying
I'm not ready to make nice
I'm not ready to back down
I'm still mad as hell and I don't have time
To go 'round and 'round and 'round
It's too late to make it right
I probably wouldn't if I could
'Cause I'm mad as hell
Can't bring myself to do what it is
You think I should
I know you said
Why can't you just get over it
It turned my whole world around
And I kind'a like it
I made my bed and I sleep like a baby
With no regrets and I don't mind saying
It's a sad, sad story
When a mother will teach her daughter
That she ought to hate a perfect stranger
And how in the world
Can the words that I said
Send somebody so over the edge
That they'd write me a letter
Saying that I better
Shut up and sing
Or my life will be over
Forgive, sounds good
Forget, I'm not sure I could
They say: time heals everything
But I'm still waiting

i cannot take it anymore. someone should just give her feedback that she cannot write. seriously, her grammer does not stay consistent throughout the sentence.
eg. "it is useful to remember that section 9A of the interpretation act provides that in the interpretation of a provision that 'would promote the purpose or object underlying the written law (whether that purpose or objection is expressly stated in the writen law or not) shall be preferred to an interpretation that would not promote that purpose or object."
obviously, what she meant was this:
"it is useful to remember that section 9A of the interpretation act provides that
AN interpretation of a provision that 'would promote the purpose or object underlying the written law (whether that purpose or objection is expressly stated in the writen law or not) shall be preferred to an interpretation that would not promote that purpose or object."
isn't it clear that there is an OBVIOUS difference between "in the interpretation" and "an interpretation"? so there i am, waiting to see a comma behind the phrase "in the interpretation of blahblahblah" but no.. she doesnt do that. she changes the structure of the sentence all together!
it's fine when its ONE sentence. but when every freaking sentence is like that, reading is a pain. and that's an EASY sentence to decipher. omg. her writing is so convulated i wonder how she ever got her masters.
ok another example. "this requirement of capacity to marry (referring to monogamy) occupies the whole of PART II of the Act devoted exclusively to 'Monogamous Marriages.' ".
isn't it a little superfluous? couldn't she jsut write "this requirement of capacity to marry occupies the whole of PART II of the Act."
or if she really wants to get her point across, "this requirement of capacity to marry occupies the whole of PART II of the Act.
THIS CAN BE SEEN BY THE EXCLUSIVE DEVOTION OF PART II UNDER THE HEADING 'MONOGAMOUS MARRIAGES'.There. simple. gets the point across. her writing is more tedious and convulated than the statutes. it is open to multiple interpretations. so much for clear writing.
here's yet another example. "Even if the subsisting marriage were polygamous, the provision attached to prohibit the solemnization of any further marriage."
Interpretation 1: "the provision attached
PROHIBITS the solemnization of any further marriage" or alternatively "the provision attached
ACTS TO prohibit the solemnization of any further marriage"
Interpretation 2: She did not finish the sentence. She really wanted to write "Even if the subsisting marriage were polygamous, the provision attached to prohibit the solemnization of any further marriage, means that blahblahblah..."
you see the obvious grammatical errors? there are so many examples of her not using commas when the sentence jsut begs for it. my gdness.
that's problem number one. her style of writing is bad (to put it mildly). the next problem, she does not substantiate her points. she says things like "this is obviously undesirable." and there i am, waiting for the reasons why it is obviously undesirable, but they don't come. so i think to myself "ok, i really don't see the OBVIOUSNESS in this" and what happens? im stressed out of my mind because she is THE authority.
to think she tells us the importance of writing well and substantiating your arguments.

"he stopped loving me. i don't know what i did or what i didn't do. he just stopped. i don't believe i ever said that out loud." - Sarah, Must Love Dogs
"The best place to meet a guy is at the supermarket. You don't need to waste a lot of time there, either. You see a guy holding a list, you know he's married. He's in the frozen food section carrying a small basket, he's single. I like to hang out by fruits and vegetables, there's a better chance of getting a guy who's healthy." - Rebecca, Must Love Dogs
"Jerry Maguire: I love you. You... you complete me. And I just...
Dorothy: Shut up, just shut up. You had me at "hello". " - Jerry Maguire
stress is really bringing out the couch potato and romantic in me. and i used to hate romantic movies. oh gawd.

i seriously need to stop eating. it's 1am and im staring at my 2 (empty- duh!)bags of lays and half-eaten pack of khong guan sultana biscuits. sigh. i hate what stress does to me.
i hate evidence. i dont understand how people can say it's easy when it is NOT. pinsler is hardly useful. it tells you the law but it doesnt tell you what the contentious issues are. so i have to rely on muggers, which thankfully are well-written. Ok, i take that back. for example, "Evidential burden. Raise the matter in issue, less than to show likelihood. Merely to more than to show evidence of trifling and inadequate nature." now, what in the world was this guy thinking as he wrote this? is this some kinda code that i have to decipher now? argh. on top of that, i really dont get the issues because pinsler doesn't tell me and it isnt exactly the most organised textbook around. that sucks because if i dont evne know the issues, how am i going to prepare for it? ok i know i know. its my fault. having watched 0 webcast lectures, attended 1 seminar. ok fine. but it doesnt change the fact that i hate evidence.
if evidence is bad, what is family? oh gawd i dare not even think about it. and my brief encounters with the textbook ignites a new-found hate for a certain professor who cannot seem to write properly. someone's gotta learn punctuation. and how to shorten sentences. basically, go for lawr lessons.
its amazing how studying for exams are no longer as simple as open-your-textbook-and-slog-guts-out-trying-to digest-the-deep wisdom. studying has become a, i say again, code-deciphering exercise. whoever cracks the code gets to understand the textbook. THEN you talk about digesting.
why dont people just write in simple normal english? why why why?!

don't you hate it when your friend starts speaking to you in a slang after he has gone overseas to study? it's as if suddenly he is above you, he is now cooler than you. i think people who slang are deliberately trying to show off and catapult themselves into an illusory position. they suffer from illusions of self-grandeur.
think about this. they have been in singapore for what, 20 years? And went overseas for say (ok let's cut them some slack) 5 years. they spent 80% for their lives here and 20% elsewhere. They grew up here and learnt to speak here, which (correct me if im wrong)ought to suggest that Singapore should have the bigger influence on how they speak. After all, their most formative years were spent here, absorbing the Singapore way of life. So how is it that after a few years in white-men-land, these people suddenly -gasp!- forgot how to speak English the way they had been for 20 years?
Besides, you don't see people who go to India for exchange or France or China coming back speaking with a slang from those countries. I mean, only people who went to what, UK, USA, Australia, Canada, come back speaking like that. What now huh? Oh so the newly acquired slang depends on the country you went. If you go to China, you will never pick up their super-slow-super-exaggerated-as-if-you-have-a-super-long-tongue way of speaking. But if you go to a cool place like California, there is no problem picking up their way of speaking there. Makes you wonder eh?
I mean seriously, we're all Singaporeans here. We all know our lahs and lors like these angmohs know their P's and Q's. What, are we suddenly too low class for you, that you have to pretend you're somebody you're not here? You're too atas now for us?
The only other thing more terrible than hearing a Singaporean slang is hearing another SIngaporean waxing lyrical about how wonderful the american accent is and how terrible singaporeans sound. I seriously cannot stand it when my sister hears someone speaking in a fake slang and saying "omg, she can speak so well! I wanna go usa and learn to speak well too!" In her opinion, speaking well = slanging. I've tried countless times trying to tell her that speaking well=speaking grammatically. It's not about the slang. It's about the English. As long as you speak grammatically, it doesnt jar on the ears, you're fine. I mean, of course you don't go around mispronouncing words, like "WAH-ter" (water) or "KER-league" (colleague). And there are the obvious ones with the annoying "th-s" like "every-DING"(eveything), "DE" (the), "DEY" (they) and so forth. Ok that Singlish is not exactly good english. Granted, but other than that, we're fine.
And even if we speak broken English among ourselves, is it really such a grievous sin? Oh come on. What is life without our "lahs" and "wahlaueh" and "you damn one kind" and "jialat"? Singlish is our way of life man. EMBRACE IT. not at the cost of forgetting real English, but it's just our culture.
It may seen quizzical to some people and sometimes people don't really understand what we're saying. But we're in Singapore. You don't go to Russia and laugh at Russians for speaking Russian. As long as we Singaporeans understand Singlish, what's wrong if we use Singlish? Just as long as we don't forget proper English, is Singlish really so wrong? It's our dialect man. If these angmohs wanna understand what we're saying, learn the language! Why do we have to change our language and the way we mix around OURSELVES for outsiders? As long as we interact fine with them, why should we change how we interact among ourselves?
I really hate that people try to act cool by slanging, by pretending to be people they are not. The way they slang when they are angry at you (an obvious show of power) and look down on you as if you're smaller just cos you don't slang. Cmon, everyone can slang. We've watched enough american shows to know how they speak. We're just more real than you are, you fake.
Slanging is NOT cool. It's fine if you have that slang naturally. But if you "gek" it out, not cool not cool. What are you trying to do, pull rank on us now? I despise all you who despise us. shame on you.
